iPhoto/Image Capture cannot import iPhone photo - Solved!

I have been using iPhoto in my Macbook to import the photo captured by iPhone. iPhoto will automatically detect by iPhone upon plugin. However recently I did a upgrade to iPhoto 09 and was surprised to find that the new iPhoto 09 cannot detect my iPhone and I can't import the photo again!!

I did a search on the Internet for very long and tried the various solutions proposed on the web. I tried to connect to another macbook with a old version of iPhoto and the iPhoto does detect my iPhone too. So it is not the upgrade that is causing the problem. I tried to plug another iPhone into my macbook and it can detect the iPhone to import the photo. Hence my iPhoto 09 is working.

Today I continue my search for a solution and finally found out that it is a bug!!!
According to a posting on the web, iPhoto cannot detect the iPhone if you have saved some images from mail or safari to the library. Some images are ok but some will cause problem if the filename is not recognized by iPhoto.

Knowing that, I look through my library and start to delete those photo that are saved from safari or mail. After that, I plugin my iPhone and iPhoto instantly detect my iPhone to import the photo :)
I'm glad that I'm able to import the photo as I have taken quite a lot of photo and those are quite precious to me ;)

I posted the solution here and hope it will help some of you to solve the similar problem.
Good Luck

Internet tethering via USB

With the Singtel data plan increase to 12GB, the only way to utilize the 12 GB is to do tethering.

iPhone 3GS provides 2 ways of tethering, via Bluetooth and USB. I tried Bluetooth before and found that it used up the battery significantly.

So today I'm going to try using USB which can charge the phone at the same time ;) My initial concern is that iTunes will always sync whenever I plug in the iPhone.

Regardless I turn on the tethering on my iPhone using USB only and plug into my MacBook.

I'm very surprise how easy it is! ITunes syncing and the Internet tethering can occur concurrently! Regardless of the syncing, I just activate safari and able to surf immediately! No configuration on OS X required! I even managed to do updates for Mac OS X. In the end I used up about 500MB of data :)

Singtel 3G speed on iPhone 3GS

With the Singtel increasing the data plan to 12 GB, It would be great to do lots of surfing, email, msn, etc on the iPhone.

However I find that the speed of the 3G is very disappointing. Even though the speed is supposed to be 7.2Mbps, I have had very low speed. My average speed is around 1Mbps.

Below is the screen capture of speedtest at IMM Jurong area.

The best I got is this:

So what is the point of having 12 GB if the speed is so slow!

Singtel free upgrade to 12 GB data

Singtel has just send a SMS to inform that the data plan is upgraded free from 1GB to 12GB and at $30 data cap. Guess this is due to the release of iPhone and better data plans by the other 2 telco, M1 & Starhub!

Seems like a pricing war is going on ;)

Bodyguardz for my iPhone?

Since I got my iPhone 3GS, I have been using a transparent screen protector and macmosphere to protect my iPhone. I'm not very happy with the screen protector as it is often covered with fingerprint :( The macmosphere cover is also not very good as it often stuck with dusts :_(

I'm considering the option of using bodyguardz to wrap my iPhone. However I do have some reserve as I did used invisible shield for my PSP. The outcome is not very good as there are dirts at the edge, especially at the joint of the shield at the corner.

Will the same thing happen for bodyguardz for iPhone? Should I take the plunge, and apply bodyguardz on my iPhone?

Wonder what would the price of the iPhone be? Will there be a long queue to get the phone?

Guess we will know soon next month! Both telco said that they will bring the phone in end of the year.

Internet Tethering - solved!

Finally managed to get the Internet Tethering on my iphone 3GS but I do not know why???

Inititally, the "Internet Tethering" is missing on my iPhone setting as show in the picture below:

However, I found that the "Internet Tethering" is there on my wife's iPhone. So I did a swop of the SIM and start the iPhone and found that the tab immediately appear upon putting my wife's SIM card into my iPhone. Later when I put back my own SIM card, the tab still remains. I do not know why and just glad that the tab is there.

But I still encounter another strange 'problem' on my iphone. Whenever I reboot the iPhone, the following Singtel screen will appear. It doesn't appear on my wife's iPhone before...

Day 5...

It is day 5 since I got my iPhone

Yesterday, after the number is ported over to Singtel, I put in the new SIM card into the iPhone. However I found the 3G is no enable on my iPhone. I called the Singtel mobile support and the CSO told me to change the setting for the Cellular Data Network, ie the APN, Username and Password.

After I changed and restart the phone, the 3G works!

Then I checked my wife's iPhone and found that the setting is as per my original setting which couldn't get the 3G network. However it works fine on my wife's iPhone. So I checked with the CSO and the reply is that if it is work, then don't change! I got nothing to say...

Today, I discover that the "Internet Tethering" is missing on my setting and I'm not able to do tethering. Why is it missing??? *ARGH* :_|

Anyone know why?

Day 2..

It is the second days since I got my iPhone 3GS. The line will be ported over to Singtel tomorrow according to a SMS I received today.

I have not fully configured and setup my iPhone and iTunes. Managed to import the contacts from the SIM but is in a mess. Need to tidy up and add in the birthday, address, etc :(

My previous phone is ASUS p525 and running Windows mobile. Took me a while to copy all the contacts to SIM.

Meanwhile will continue to setup my iPhone :)

76 days and counting...

Yesterday I went to the Bugis helloshop as happened to be around that area. I went to the iPhone counter to check on the status with the CSO. After requesting to check for my status, the CSO keyed in my NRIC into the system and retrieved the data that I made the reservation on 16th Sep...

Glad that my record is in, not lost like last time.
Sad that still out of stock. 76 days since the launch on 10th July and still counting...

When will I get my iphone? :(

Helloshop online

A few days ago(on Friday), there is some stock of iPhone 3GS available on the helloshop online for people to purchase. I happened to go to the website and saw that the iPhone 3GS 32GB is available to purchase. I also saw on the forum that people mentioned that they are available to purchase online and deliver next week. However the stock ran out very fast.

I didn't make a purchase as I had made my reservation with the Bugis Helloshop and I also need to port over my number for M1 to Singtel.

The available of stock online for anyone to purchase makes us wonder what is the point of make our reservation on the shop or express our interest on Singtel website?? I thought that Singtel will give priority to those that express their interest or register online!

I have missed another chance to own the iPhone and will have to continue to wait..
The waiting game continue...

Bugis Helloshop

Yesterday I went to Bugis Helloshop to recontract my mio plan to mio home. At the same indicated to them of porting my M1 number to Singtel to purchase the iPhone 3GS.

The CSO asked whether I registered my interest on the web. Told her I did and she checked. She found my record and helped me to register my interest on that shop and told me that will call me when the iPhone is here. Currently it is out of stock :(

Thinking of it, I registered my interest on the web on 24th Aug. Yesterday, the CSO key in my interest on the shop. Does it mean that I will be start from 17th Sep and at the end of the queue :_

Regardless, it will be another waiting time again. Don't know how much longer... *sigh*
