iPhoto/Image Capture cannot import iPhone photo - Solved!

I have been using iPhoto in my Macbook to import the photo captured by iPhone. iPhoto will automatically detect by iPhone upon plugin. However recently I did a upgrade to iPhoto 09 and was surprised to find that the new iPhoto 09 cannot detect my iPhone and I can't import the photo again!!

I did a search on the Internet for very long and tried the various solutions proposed on the web. I tried to connect to another macbook with a old version of iPhoto and the iPhoto does detect my iPhone too. So it is not the upgrade that is causing the problem. I tried to plug another iPhone into my macbook and it can detect the iPhone to import the photo. Hence my iPhoto 09 is working.

Today I continue my search for a solution and finally found out that it is a bug!!!
According to a posting on the web, iPhoto cannot detect the iPhone if you have saved some images from mail or safari to the library. Some images are ok but some will cause problem if the filename is not recognized by iPhoto.

Knowing that, I look through my library and start to delete those photo that are saved from safari or mail. After that, I plugin my iPhone and iPhoto instantly detect my iPhone to import the photo :)
I'm glad that I'm able to import the photo as I have taken quite a lot of photo and those are quite precious to me ;)

I posted the solution here and hope it will help some of you to solve the similar problem.
Good Luck

Internet tethering via USB

With the Singtel data plan increase to 12GB, the only way to utilize the 12 GB is to do tethering.

iPhone 3GS provides 2 ways of tethering, via Bluetooth and USB. I tried Bluetooth before and found that it used up the battery significantly.

So today I'm going to try using USB which can charge the phone at the same time ;) My initial concern is that iTunes will always sync whenever I plug in the iPhone.

Regardless I turn on the tethering on my iPhone using USB only and plug into my MacBook.

I'm very surprise how easy it is! ITunes syncing and the Internet tethering can occur concurrently! Regardless of the syncing, I just activate safari and able to surf immediately! No configuration on OS X required! I even managed to do updates for Mac OS X. In the end I used up about 500MB of data :)

Singtel 3G speed on iPhone 3GS

With the Singtel increasing the data plan to 12 GB, It would be great to do lots of surfing, email, msn, etc on the iPhone.

However I find that the speed of the 3G is very disappointing. Even though the speed is supposed to be 7.2Mbps, I have had very low speed. My average speed is around 1Mbps.

Below is the screen capture of speedtest at IMM Jurong area.

The best I got is this:

So what is the point of having 12 GB if the speed is so slow!

Singtel free upgrade to 12 GB data

Singtel has just send a SMS to inform that the data plan is upgraded free from 1GB to 12GB and at $30 data cap. Guess this is due to the release of iPhone and better data plans by the other 2 telco, M1 & Starhub!

Seems like a pricing war is going on ;)

Bodyguardz for my iPhone?

Since I got my iPhone 3GS, I have been using a transparent screen protector and macmosphere to protect my iPhone. I'm not very happy with the screen protector as it is often covered with fingerprint :( The macmosphere cover is also not very good as it often stuck with dusts :_(

I'm considering the option of using bodyguardz to wrap my iPhone. However I do have some reserve as I did used invisible shield for my PSP. The outcome is not very good as there are dirts at the edge, especially at the joint of the shield at the corner.

Will the same thing happen for bodyguardz for iPhone? Should I take the plunge, and apply bodyguardz on my iPhone?
